New beginings

My son’s best friends had a baby on Christmas Eve, and then another friend’s son had a baby on Christmas Day, or rather he and his partner did.

New babys are so exciting! They are new life, new beginnings, new love.

For the parents, it’s about feeling a depth of emotion they hadn’t felt before and a shift in attention away from themselves to a third person - the baby. For the grandparents it's about the cycle of life, the meaning of life, the future.

For those around the new family it is exciting news.

For those around the family who wanted to have their own children but didn't, for whatever reason, it can be a time of confusion - happiness for the new parents and pain for what they themselves are missing
