Acceptance

What exactly IS acceptance? What does it mean? Does it mean rolling over and being a door-mat to whatever fate throws our way?


Or does it mean looking at where we are dispassionately. Really “seeing” ourselves. Looking in at ourselves as if in the third person, watching our life and ways of being. Then acknowledging what we see, good and less good, happy and sad, as who we are.


So easy to be judgmental about ourselves and the way we cope with life. Acceptance is about noticing that judgemental approach too, and (the hard bit!) not beating ourselves up about it!


By noticing how hard we are on ourselves, we may eventually be able to accept ourselves as we are. It starts with noticing.


The vision of perfection is just that, a vision. We live in a real world and have real needs. We cope by having strategies to help
